Rosehips in the garden
There are lots of things happening at the garden this September marking the start of the autumn season.  These include gardening Saturdays which are part of our Heritage of Common Plants project, seasonal Qigong, chanting, craft afternoons, and regular meet ups of the Name It!  youth group.  In addition we have a new course starting called Strengthening Ourselves, Strengthening our Communities run by Seeds for Change who are offering a free taster session on Wednesday the 21st. Full details below and on our website.

Save the date for our forthcoming community harvest celebration on the 8th of October and our special bonfire and music afternoon with Nick Cope on the 5th November .

Nick Cope

This event marks the start of a special initiative to invite older members of the community to get to know the garden better.  If you are 65 or over you get free entry to our bonfire event with Nick ... do book the date with your grandchildren or younger friends.  If you would like to run your own activity at the harvest celebration or help out please get in touch.

Remember you can book the garden (and pizza oven) for your own event, course, party or away day but do get your booking in quickly if you have a special date in mind because we are getting a lot of bookings for the autumn and winter months. Details of how to book the garden are on the website: http://www.barrackslanegarden.org.uk/booking.htm

Chanting in the cabin

Meet: Monthly - Fridays 7.30-9.30pm.  Sept 23rd / Oct 28th / Nov 25th

A mix of easy to follow songs & chants from various Indian traditions, all of which have different flavours - some more tuneful and uplifting and some more deep & grounding. Most have guitar or harmonium accompaniment, and sometimes other instruments show up as well. We also favour the non-pitch perfect experimental approach and spend some of the session just making the sounds that want to be made, with no structure or accompaniment, seeing where it wants to go. We also love to sit and absorb the echo for a while after making sound.

It's a great opportunity to relax, enjoy your voice and make sound without the pressure to get it right or be musically great. There are also many known health benefits and good reasons to do this, and it's also a lovely way to hang out with community.

Donations to good causes. We provide refreshments. No experience needed. You can just drop in - no need to book.

This is part of a larger project called Our Heritage of Common Plants and is linked to a series of events which celebrate the uses of familiar plants in cooking, medicine, folklore and craft.

The group is suitable for all – whatever your experience or physical fitness or mobility. You can just turn up and you are welcome to come for all or just some of the time.    Please wear suitable clothes and bring a packed lunch if you are staying for the day. Tea and coffee provided.

Together we can share experiences, develop skills and learn new ways of looking after ourselves so that we can keep going for the long haul, knowing that the work we do together will in turn strengthen our communities

Free Taster Evening: Wednesday 21st September, 7-9.30pm
For the full course, we’ll ask people to contribute on a sliding scale of £10 - £70.
